ARTIST BIO

Joel was born in the Philippines in 1941 and migrated to Australia in late '79 with his family.

They settled in the western suburbs of Melbourne where he re-launched his painting career

as a full time artist . He spent 2 years as a fine arts student and began his artistic career at

age 16. He did comics, book and magazine illustrations, Graphic designing for Advertising

agencies and later shifted to full time painting at age 24. He has done 15 solo art shows, since

1976 to 2010. To date, Joel has accumulated a swag of 140 arts awards and commendations.

He does workshops in watercolour around Victoria. A signatory member of AGRA and

member of VAS as well as past president of FAME or Filipino artists of Melbourne founded

by artist-friend Do Noble.
