After years as an aquatic biologist traveling in the eastern states of Australia, the observations of many strange and marvelous creatures and the influence of wonderful locations from billabongs to rocky coastlines have inspired Gillian.
A love for colour and patterns, especially those inspired by the natural world are a feature of Gillian's work. Through silk painting and silk screening, patterns emerge describing the character of Australia's wildlife, as seen through the eyes of an artist influenced by a strong background in biological sciences.
From the small microscopic animals, plants and minerals to the larger, better known flora and fauna, from yabbies and water-bears to starfish and sea-slugs, it appears that the aquatic environment is a favourite, although lizards have always had a special place! Gillian has expressed her delight in our Australian environment through many media, including photography, silver jewellery work, watercolour and oil paintings, as well as textile design.. |
