I had this idea sometime in March 2013 to pick up a paintbrush and try to paint something. I scoured google for an online lesson of some description to get me started and came across an Australian artist by the name of Len Hend. He (and so many others as I've since discovered) has produced a lot of 'how to' videos available online for free or a small charge, so I decided to give them a go. I painted furiously for weeks with Len guiding away on my computer screen and was so completely hooked with trying to produce beautiful paintings - many of which grace the walls of friends and family's homes - and others that reside all around my house, waiting for a new owner to fall in love and whisk them away!
I painted this way for a few months, just doing my own thing, until I decided that I'd join an art group for some guidance. I was only able to go for a few months due to moving house - but in my time there I painted three oils - a landscape, a water scene of Château de Chillon and a portrait - Jac. This was the first time Id ever painted with oils and I quickly came to love them! I still enjoy using acrylics - because Im impatient - and will probably always use both mediums depending on the subject and time constraints.
At this stage I don't have a 'style' - I'm still learning with every painting I do and if someone loves one enough to buy it then I am over the moon!
I'm not sure if I'll ever have any formal training or if I'll just continue to learn from my mistakes, soaking up guidance and information from all the many generous and accomplished artists who share their techniques with the online community....time will tell.
At the moment I simply love having an idea, seeing a picture or hearing a suggestion and taking a blank canvas and bringing it to life...it's so calming and I can get completely lost for hours at a time when I'm painting. Bliss!
